Make

10 Feb

Make‘ is a brand new craft cafe that has recently opened on the lovely Albert Road. It will be running a range of different workshops  by local people, teaching a variety of crafty activities. It is a lovely bright and airy workspace with a massive craft table, several sewing machines and also a cosy corner where you can drink tea, eat cake and work on your latest project! Perfect!

This Saturday they ran a Valentines taster session between 1-3pm. So I went along to check it out. I dragged my slightly begrudging husband along and made him get stuck in!

He made a pixel art heart keyring with the help of the talented Eyecandy.

At the same time I was taught by my lovely friend Georgina Giles how to make a woven felt heart. It was a lovely way to spend an hour of my Saturday.

This Wednesday evening between 7pm-9pm they are holding an open craft night. You pay £3 to eat cake, drink tea and work on your latest project. I for one will be going! If you live locally and fancy a couple of hours of crafty goodness, why not pop along and show them your support?

Jubilee celebrations!

3 Jun

The Jubilee weekend is here! I hope you all have lots of lovely things planned over the 4 day weekend.

To help with the local celebrations I have been helping my friend Georgina Giles with a mammoth task; to help make 357 meters of celebration bunting to decorate Palmerston Road in Southsea. School children across Portsmouth have been  decorating flags with some wonderful designs that would adorn the lenght of Palmerston Road shopping centre. The flags were only delivered on Tuesday so it was a busy couple of days of sewing! Particularly for George as she did the gigantic strip of 200 meters that runs along the entire lenght of the street!

I enjoyed looking at all the flags I had to sew, children have such great imaginations. There were lots of drawings of the Queen and diamonds and lots of shiny crowns. Some however appeared to have nothing to do with the queen at all, in fact one had appeared to have drawn Chewbacca from Star Wars!

It was great to help out a friend and to be involved in a local project. Seeing it all hanging proudly in the sunshine gives you a great sense of pride, even if I only had a small part to play.

One person who should be VERY proud though is Miss Georgina Giles herself who helped organised the whole thing with Portsmouth City Council and made it come together beautifully! Well done George!x
