Southsea Flea Market

2 Mar

Today I popped into Southsea Flea Market on Waverley Road to have a quick rummage amongst the bric-a-brac. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, I just like to have a gander and see if I stubble across any bargains, old plates or vintage fabrics etc.  Today was my lucky day as hiding at the back of the hall perched on top of a radiator was a pair of GORGEOUS Vintage curtains in my favourite colour (Orange!) It’s one of those heart stopping moments where you find something you absolutely love and can’t quite believe someone else hasn’t snapped it up already! At £10 for the pair which are in fabulous condition I simply had to run to the cash point and purchase them immediately.

I initially thought I could use the fabric to make some cushions or something but they were in such a good condition that I couldn’t bare to put a pair of scissors to them! Luckily for me they are the perfect fit for the window in our living room! Groovy or what?!

Sneak Preview

This Sunday I will be back at The Guildhall Boutique Market! woohoo!  It has taken a break over the summer but is coming back with a vengeance this weekend, with over 50 stalls selling some awesome handmade and vintage goodies it’s set to be a great day.

I have been busy crafting some new bits and pieces including button rings and also felt and button flowers which I hope will prove to be a hit.

Charity shop shelves painted a lovely shade of pink 🙂

Mini – bunting!

Button rings and button hearts!

I have also been working on the look and image of my stall. It’s so much harder than it looks! Some crafter’s make it look so easy with their stalls looking effortlessly pretty and inviting, and it is something I always admire ( and envy!!) I have never been completely happy with the ‘look’ of my stall and so I have been playing around with new colours and display stands.  I am always over critical of my work so will never be completely happy, but I think I am almost there…almost.

So if you are free Sunday I hope to see you there at The Guildhall in Portsmouth from 11am – 3pm. (it’s FREE ENTRY!)

Jubilee celebrations!

3 Jun

The Jubilee weekend is here! I hope you all have lots of lovely things planned over the 4 day weekend.

To help with the local celebrations I have been helping my friend Georgina Giles with a mammoth task; to help make 357 meters of celebration bunting to decorate Palmerston Road in Southsea. School children across Portsmouth have been  decorating flags with some wonderful designs that would adorn the lenght of Palmerston Road shopping centre. The flags were only delivered on Tuesday so it was a busy couple of days of sewing! Particularly for George as she did the gigantic strip of 200 meters that runs along the entire lenght of the street!

I enjoyed looking at all the flags I had to sew, children have such great imaginations. There were lots of drawings of the Queen and diamonds and lots of shiny crowns. Some however appeared to have nothing to do with the queen at all, in fact one had appeared to have drawn Chewbacca from Star Wars!

It was great to help out a friend and to be involved in a local project. Seeing it all hanging proudly in the sunshine gives you a great sense of pride, even if I only had a small part to play.

One person who should be VERY proud though is Miss Georgina Giles herself who helped organised the whole thing with Portsmouth City Council and made it come together beautifully! Well done George!x

Look what I found!

27 May

Look what I found hiding at a car boot sale this morning! I love them!  1960’s/70’s J & G Meakin dinner plate and serving plate. The pattern is just gorgeous and is everything I love and they are in pretty good nick too. I plan to use them to display smaller items at my craft fairs. I love rummaging round at car boot sales, you never know what gems you might uncover, and on a beautiful sunny day today it was the perfect start to a Sunday.

After mooching around the car boot I then set off to The Cute Little Market’s first ever fair based at Hilsea Lido. It was lovely! Such a great setting too. Its a shame the Lidos new splash pool wasn’t open just yet, but it will be for sure next time so I will be sure to have a paddle! The fair itself looked beautiful inside, decorated from wall to wall with pretty handmade bunting and there was a lovely range of stalls all selling wonderful hand made goodies! I am definately looking forward to holding my stall there on the 1st of July!
