Southsea Flea Market

2 Mar

Today I popped into Southsea Flea Market on Waverley Road to have a quick rummage amongst the bric-a-brac. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, I just like to have a gander and see if I stubble across any bargains, old plates or vintage fabrics etc.  Today was my lucky day as hiding at the back of the hall perched on top of a radiator was a pair of GORGEOUS Vintage curtains in my favourite colour (Orange!) It’s one of those heart stopping moments where you find something you absolutely love and can’t quite believe someone else hasn’t snapped it up already! At £10 for the pair which are in fabulous condition I simply had to run to the cash point and purchase them immediately.

I initially thought I could use the fabric to make some cushions or something but they were in such a good condition that I couldn’t bare to put a pair of scissors to them! Luckily for me they are the perfect fit for the window in our living room! Groovy or what?!

Happy Birthday Mum

21 Jan

It was my mum’s birthday yesterday and after buying  Christmas presents  I always find it hard to think of something nice to get her in January. Luckily I remembered her mentioning something that she wanted a while ago and it also happened to be something that I have wanted to have a go at making for ages. A fabric memo board!

They are so easy to make, but seeing as I hadn’t made one before I thought it best to have a practice run, that way I get to make one for myself as well! So I gathered my supplies; a cheap pin board, some wadding, ribbon and buttons, a staple gun and some funky fabric, and off I went.

For my memo board I used some vintage curtain fabric that my sister in law gave me along with some yellow ribbon and buttons. I think it’s beautifully simple.

Happy with the outcome of my first attempt I cracked on my mums birthday present. She’s a big fan of blues, so I chose a lovely blue floral fabric that I’ve had hiding in my stash for a while. I picked out some lovely chunky blue buttons to sew through the joining ribbons and also used some of the ribbon to create a hanging handle. I covered the back of the board with some plain blue cotton to hide away the staples and back of the board.

I really enjoyed making these and will definitely be doing them again to sell at craft fairs and on my Etsy page. I particularly loved using the staple gun!

Flo & Stan Home Boutique

19 May

Flo & Stan Home Boutique is a beautiful store located on Albert Road in Southsea, it sells vintage, hand made and quirky kitsch goodness. I have always enjoyed browsing at their beautiful wares and oggiling at their window displays. A couple of weeks ago I emailed them to see if they would be interested in stocking any of my Humbug creations ( you never know if you don’t ask!) and happily they have agreed to stock a few of my crocheted granny square blankets! I am very excited to have the opportunity to sell in such a wonderful location!

I immediately set off in the direction of Anne Louise Wool Shop in Copnor to find some wonderful wool to start my crocheted creations! Here are the colours I have chosen to get me started. I can’t wait to get my hooks out!

To celebrate me and hubby went to the pub (we don’t need much of an excuse!) played a few games of pool and then headed to one of the many junk shops on Fawcett Road where I discovered this beautiful vintage curtain hiding in a bin liner. And for one pound I simply had to have it!

So all in all it’s been a rather magical day! Now its time to chill with puppy….oh and the husband!xxx
